Welcome to iTools
iTOOLS VERSION 7 NOW AVAILABLE
iTools 7

The Configuration Software
        with more......

The new version features a number of major enhancements, including the ability to create custom user screens (MINI-SCADA screens), configuration "Wizards" to simplify controller configuration, and a graphical wiring editor to configure Eurotherm's advanced Model 3500 process controllers.

iTools has evolved continuously since its introduction in 1999. This versatile suite of software tools allows configuration and monitoring of all Eurotherm Series 2000 and Series 3000 controllers, the 2500 & MINI8 DIN Rail mounting process controller, EPower Power Controlers, and also provides runtime monitoring of 6000 Series data acquisition and management units. It is capable of editing, storing and 'cloning' complete controller configurations, as well as setting up data logging, process monitoring, Ethernet and modem connections, and generating order codes.

iTools employs an OPC® (OLE for Process Control) server which uses MODBUS® to communicate with the controllers. The server connects to the controllers via serial communications, Ethernet or a telephone modem, and may also be used by third party 'client' software such as Wonderware® and LabVIEW®. Additionally, a DDE link allows parameter values to be displayed 'Live' in an Excel spreadsheet or similar applications, and historical logged data can also be imported into Excel.

Key iTools Software Tools

iTools features a number of powerful tools, including:

  • View Builder allows users to create PC-based user screens or mini-SCADA screens for simple process monitoring, commissioning and diagnostics.
    • Delevlop your own screens as required.
    • Background images are directly imported
    • User buttons allow switching between any number of screens allowing large fully interactive systems to be quickly develop
    • Live data can be monitored
    • Commands and data changes can be sent to any number of controllers
The Configurator will edit, store and 'clone' complete controller configurations. Clone files can be opened as virtual instruments simulating their actual behaviour and allowing complete configurations to be developed off-line, then downloaded to the controller at a later time.

Configuration Wizards hugely simplify the controller configuration process and guide the user through various features offered. This includes an order code wizard, allowing configuration from an order code. (Models: 3216, 3208, 3216, 32h8i)

The Graphical Wiring Editor allows configuration of the advanced 3508, 3504, EPower & MINI8 process controllers. The GRAHICAL WIRING EDITOR offers the user a simple DRAG-&-DROP graphical interface to develop advanced control applications. Utilising pre-configured function blocks, users are able to develop the required strageties in minutes, with access to realtime monitoring. The editor can also be used for documentation as the wiring diagram can be printed.

The Setpoint Program Editor provides a simple method of setting up setpoint profiles and programmable event outputs. It will store, retrieve and download program profiles, working 'on-line', when program values are edited 'live' in a connected controller, or 'off-line', when programs are edited before being downloaded to a selected controller. The number of stored programs is limited only by the capacity of the PC hard disk.

OPC Scope is a utility providing trend plots of process variables. The time axis can be adjusted between 1 min and 1 month, and also provides a Historical Review mode. Data may also be logged to hard disk, from which it may be retrieved and analysed in an Excel spreadsheet.

    OPC Server Driver
The OPC Server, EuroMBus.exe is responsible for obtaining data values from devices, and for writing values to devices. Neither the iTools Shell nor ActiveX Controls communicate directly with devices, rather they communicate with the server which in turn talks to the devices. In most cases, the iTools OPC Server delivers data to its clients (such as the iTools Shell and ActiveX Controls) using the published OLE for Process Control (OPC) interfaces. This means that the same OPC Server may be used to provide data to third-party applications, particularly SCADA programs.

iTools is available with different features enabled according to the level of functionality required.

The following features may be specified, in any combination, when obtaining iTools:

    • Configuration Software
    • Open OPC Server - allows 3rd-party client access to the OPC server
    • OPC Scope trending and logging
    • Standalone Programmer Editor
    • View Builder

    • It is possible to upgrade the set of available features by purchasing a new Product Key from Eurotherm.
    Notes: -
The Configuration Software option is not charged for. However, it may be disabled by Product Key where it is specifically not required.
Whenever the Configuration Software option is specified, all other options (where not ordered) will operate in a demo mode as appropriate.
If OPC Scope trending and logging has not been specified, the OPC Scope program will still be available as a simple OPC client offering live textual displays.

A special demonstration version of iTools is available on this CD. While Configurator, Wizards and Graphical Wiring Editor can be run without restriction, all of the other tools, including View Builder, OPC Scope and the standalone Setpoint Program Editor, will run for 30 minutes for evaluation purposes. After this time a product key is required to permanently enable the chargeable software elements.

iTools is a Windows based software package designed for configuation and cloning of the industry leading Series 2000™ family of PID controllers and indicators. With iTools V4 or greater there is support for the Chessell 5000 Series of graphical DAQ recorders. There are 3 editions of iTools - Demo, Standard and Open. The Demo edition of iTools may be downloaded free from the Eurotherm web site for evaluation.

iTools operates on any personal computer running Windows®9x Windows NT®, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. For instruments with Modbus® RTU communications, iTools will scan the network on request and automatically identify any supported Series 2000 instrument. Non-communicating instruments use the optional Series 2000 Interface Box that does not require the instrument to be line powered.

Copying the complete set of parameter values from an attached controller to a file can be done at the click of a button. This same file can then be cloned to another instrument to provide an exact duplicate. Clone files can be edited off-line, distributed or used to compare configurations.

iTools is written using the latest software technology ensuring interoperability with industrial and desktop software you use today. This technology is demonstrated by the inclusion of two ActiveX controls (a Series 2000 faceplate and parameter control), a Modbus RTU OPC™ Server (EuroMBus) that can operate as a standalone OPC Server that supports both serial COM (modbus RTU and Ei-Bisynch) and Ethernet (modbus/TCP) connections, a visual Setpoint Programmer Editor (SPE) and OPC Scope - a trend plot and data logger tool. Both ActiveX controls and the OPC Server can be used with industrial visualization software (SCADA) available today.

    REMOTE CONFIGURATION/MONITORING

iTools can also be used for remote configuration and monitoring applications. There are three ways for iTools (and OPC Scope) to communicate with remote instruments and computers.

    • ModBus serial via a modem connection
    • ModBus TCP Master over Ethernet
    • ModBus TCP Slave over Ethernet
iTools can monitor and configure equipment via a remote network computer

iTools can be connected to remote equipment via a dial-up modem
